| Ball position before approach. | |
| Question: | I , FOR MANY YEARS AT THE START OF THE APPROACH, HELD THE BALL WITH ONLY MY RIGHT HAND TO THE SIDE AND CROUCH DOWN WITH MY BODY LIKE WAYNE WEB. I HAD SUCCESS BOWLING ONLY THREE GAMES PER WEEK IN LEAGUE PLAY , BUT THEN I READ ARTICLES ON THE FREE ARM SWING AND IT SOUNDED LIKE THIS WOULD BE BETTER FOR ME. I TRIED THIS FOR THE FIRST 17 WEEKS OF THIS SEASON AND MY AVERAGE DROPPED 10 PINS. EVEN THOUGH THE LANES ARE CONDITIONED DIFFERENLTY THIS YEAR,MUCH TIGHTER, WHAT ARE THE DOWN-SIDES OF BOWLING WITH ONLY ONE ARM HOLDING THE BALL AT THE BEGINNING OF THE APPROACH? |
| Answer: |
The tendency of that approach is just what you said. The possibility of a muscled arm swing. Over time your new game may help you. However if you still only bowl once a week and you have had success with the ball at your side and the crouch, then why change. If your goal is to get better and bowl tournaments and be more serious then a change to the more loose arm swing is probably a good thing. This tied in with more bowling and more practice should work. But still bowling only once per week and not practicing will make your change frustrating and most likely hurt the game you have developed over time. Just my opinion. |
