Welcome to BallSelector.com!

This website is designed to help the advanced bowler or Pro Shop owner/operator in selecting a bowling ball based on its technical factors.

It IS NOT a replacement for your local Pro Shop Professional, but instead a tool to be used to help aid in the selection of new equipment. The "right" ball for you can not be determined by any computer program, yes we can narrow the selection down, but your Pro Shop Professional can take into consideration all the other factors the software can not. Many customers print out the results from Ballselector, and bring it with them to the Pro Shop.

With so many balls by so many different manufacturers out, it is increasingly difficult to accurately find bowling balls the advanced bowler is looking for, your local pro shop may have 50 balls on display, but which one to select is always difficult without going through manufacturers spec sheets. This site will alleviate that.

There are 3 main sections to this site:

Review Balls:

All customers are asked to submit a short review of each of the balls in their arsenal.

Since when you sign-up, we store basic information about your style of bowling, we can now do relational queries against reviews.

Reviews are visible in two ways, "All Reviews" and "Review Matching your Style", and can be found on various screens throughout the system.

Best Balls For You: This option searches all the reviews for matches to your style, and displays them by rating and date of review. This allows you to find balls that other like you are using, and see what they have to say.
X Total Reviews : Total Reviews on the database for this ball.
X Matching You: Number of Reviews that match your style.

Search Balls:

Query our database by a variety of factors and across manufacturers.

Manufacturer: This  allows you to limit your search by manufacturer.
Cover Strength: Since there are so many types of coverstock, we rate each coverstock by its "strength".
Core Reaction: Core Reaction shows the general characteristics of the ball.
RG: Show balls that match this Radius of Gyration configuration.
Differential: Show balls that match this Differential configuration.
Sort: t;>Sort the results by RG or Differential.
Show Only Newer Balls: Our database contains new and discontinued balls. This
option filters out balls that are not readily available.
Ball Name: This further filters the results with ball names that contain
this word(s). This is optional, and can be used alone (leave
all the other options as "any" and you can look up balls by name)

Compare Balls:

This is the most powerful section of the site, here you can do relational comparisons against the equipment in the database.

Once registered on this site, you can enter what bowling balls you have, and run comparisons against our database, so if you looking for a replacement for some of your equipment, (find me a ball just like my XXX), or looking to equipment that is in-between other equipment (filling holes), this site can list equipment that will fit in that criteria.

On the top portion of the screen, are general filters (as in the search area) that will restrict the returned records. The top part of the display shows the bowling balls that are on your user record, the bottom section allows you to put other balls on this screen for comparisons. Other buttons are as follows:

Like: Find balls that have the same basic characteristics.
-Flip: Find balls that have less angular back-end reactions.
+Flip: Find balls that have more angular back-end reactions.
-Skid: Find balls that roll earlier.
+Skid: Find balls that roll later.
-Hook: Find balls with less over-all hook (more skid, and less back-end)
+Hook: Find balls with more over-all hook (less skid, and more back-end)

In addition, there is a select field on the right and two associated buttons

Compare: Compare any two selected balls, this will find other balls in the database
whose RG and Differential falls between the two selected balls. This is
useful when you find a "Gap" in your equipment.
Display: Display all selected bowling balls.

Misc Notes:

When in the "Compare" section, you can sort your balls by RG or Differential by clicking on the column name (IE: "RG (Click here to sort"). This is useful to put your own balls in sequence to find gaps in a reaction.

When displaying balls, your balls or comparison balls are always shown with a green background.
